President Donald Trump has broken his silence after it was claimed that the United States could be set to become the next “associate member” of the Commonwealth. Taking to the forum Truth Social, the President shared an article making the claim and wrote: “I Love King Charles. Sounds good to me!”
The interaction comes after it was reported that King Charles could make a secret offer to the sitting President to make the US ‘royal’ again. Despite his unfavourable opinion of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Trump is said to have “great respect” for King Charles and the British Royal Family. According to the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden’s latest column, plans are being made for the US to become the next “associate member” of the Commonwealth.
The Express has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

The Commonwealth has a total population of more than 2.7 billion. Although the US declared independence from Britain in 1776, this would be no impediment to the country as a whole becoming the 57th member of the Commonwealth.
The proposals for this to happen were reportedly being made by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) during Trump’s first term as president. It is said to have had the apparent backing of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
As reported by the Daily Mail, a member told Mr Eden this week: “This is being discussed at the highest levels. It would be a wonderful move that would symbolise Britain’s close relationship with the US.
“Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this.
“Associate membership could, hopefully, be followed by full membership, making the Commonwealth even more important as a global organisation.”
The source added: “The Commonwealth is also a great forum for resolving differences between nations, and the King has shown that he is a natural peacemaker.”
In footage released at the end of 2024, Trump can be heard referring to the King as a “really good person”.
The footage, which was released as part of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s docu-series Art of The Surge, the US President can be heard saying, “Hopefully he’s going to be well, because he’s a really good person. Camilla is fantastic. You get to know them so well.”
