US President Donald Trump accused China, Russia and North Korea of “conspiring against the United States” after their leaders appeared together at a large-scale military parade in Beijing on Wednesday (3 September).
The parade, held to mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II, featured some of China’s most advanced weaponry, including a new nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile, hypersonic missiles and underwater drones. Nearly two dozen world leaders attended the event, among them Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Trump, writing on Truth Social, sent a furious message to Chinese President Xi Jinping following the parade.
“Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honoured and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice,” Trump wrote.
He concluded his post with a sarcastic comment, as he said: “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”
Earlier today, Chinese President, Xi, opened the parade with a speech recalling the sacrifices of 1945, saying: “Today humanity again has to choose between peace and war.”
The parade showcased some of China’s most advanced weaponry, including fighter jets, hypersonic missiles and drones.
He later hosted a reception for visiting leaders, while Putin and Kim held bilateral talks at a separate venue.
The gathering marked the first time Xi, Putin and Kim have appeared publicly together, shower closer ties between Beijing, Moscow and Pyongyang at a time of heightened tensions with the US.
