The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division is investigating the Jan. 24 killing of Alex Pretti by a federal agent in Minneapolis, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed Friday.
The deputy AG said the Department of Homeland Security was still taking the lead on the probe, with the FBI also “looking into it and conducting [an] investigation,” Blanche said.
“That shouldn’t be treated as making news.”
“There are thousands, unfortunately, of law enforcement events every year where somebody is shot,” he added later when questioned about why the fatal shooting Jan. 7 of Renee Good, which also occurred in Minneapolis, was not investigated by federal civil rights attorneys.
“The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice does not investigate every one of those shootings,” Blanche noted. “It depends on the circumstances.”
