He’s so scared of humans he freezes up when somebody comes close to him – but all he needs is the right person to teach him love and kindness.
One-year-old Prince has been taken in by Oakwood Dog Rescue in Hull after being born into a world of horror in a Romanian kill shelter.
The mixbreed was “shut down in the shelter and just too scared to do anything” until rescuers stepped in to give him a second chance at life.
A statement reads: “If the shelter volunteers needed to do anything with him, they said he’d just completely freeze, let them do what they needed, and then run off back to a cold corner of the concrete pen he was living in, and try and make himself small and invisible.”
While Prince isn’t quite ready to accept strokes yet, he is starting to learn not every human is a threat and is close to accepting a gentle touch from someone he trusts.
The statement adds: “Without another dog around, Prince turns into a quivering wreck. Prince must be rehomed with at least one other dog already in the home for confidence.
“Although Prince can not [sic] cope without another dog, he can be surprisingly gobby when he first meets them. Once he knows he is safe though and that they want to be his friend, he falls in love with them and they absolutely light up his life.
“Prince has not yet been cat tested due to how scared he still is, we wouldn’t be able to get an accurate reading until he is more confident.”
The poor pooch can live with sensible children over aged 12. He has no former training and would need an owner with the time and patience to teach him the basics.
He is not yet lead trained and has never lived in a house. However, the rescue centre believes he will soon adapt to this environment.
Commenting on one of his rehoming posts on Facebook, a user said: “Bless his hairy little socks.” Another user said: “Millions of hugs, sweetheart.”
A third user said: “Bless him, hope he finds his forever home.” Founded in 2009, Oakwood Dog Rescue has been rehoming ex-street dogs from the UK and overseas.
With an aim to match the right owner with the right dog the first time around, the company states: “We do not operate on finding homes as fast as possible, instead we match our dogs to the best homes we can to ensure they stay in the home they have found.”
