Doctor Neena Chandrasekaran, a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, has issued a message to pregnant women, encouraging them to try a simple practice whilst pregnant. She emphasises that it only needs to be done three times a week and requires minimal effort.

Under the username @neenziemd, she said that these are “things they don’t tell you” when it comes to pregnancy. “Studies show that women who are pregnant, who exercise in pregnancy boost their babies brain development”, she revealed.

The doctor further explained in video that the brain activity of babies, in mother’s who had exercised, “found more mature patterns of activity” which has been linked to “better performance mentally later in life.”

She added: “This was found in mother to exercise about three 20 minute sessions a week whilst pregnant”, beore further explaining that it can lead to increased blood flow through the placenta to the child.

“The studies are the first randomised controlled trial findings” that a show “pregnant mother’s exercise routine can have a significant impact” on their child “mentally and cognitively that can impact the rest of their lives.”

She concluded by emphasising there’s no need for anything too strenuous. Even activities like pilates, stretching, or simply walking for 20 minutes three times a week during pregnancy can make a significant difference, she urged.
