Holger Rune has admitted that he bought a Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet after seeing Novak Djokovic driving one. The Dane is currently competing at the Stockholm Open, where he is set to face Marton Fucsovics on Thursday in the round of 16.
And speaking to media in the build-up to the match, the 22-year-old took some time to speak about his lavish new purchase and Djokovic’s part in him splashing more than £200,000 on it (the price of the car on Porsche’s website). He said: “Recently, I bought my first car. I already had a few from winning Munich, but this is the first one I actually bought myself.
“I saw Novak driving it in Miami this year and thought, ‘Oh wow, this car is amazing.’ It’s a Porsche 911. I said, ‘Why not?'”
However, Rune also hilariously admitted that he didn’t know how to drive the machine just yet in the next breath, explaining how taking part in the Shanghai Masters put a halt on his lessons. He added: “I can’t drive it yet though. I just started learning — had a few lessons but then went to China.”
While Rune impressed in Shanghai, his efforts to dethrone Jannik Sinner of the title proved futile. After securing comfortable wins over Sebastian Baez and Ugo Humbert in his opening rounds, the ATP No. 11 closed out a close-fought win over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the round of 16.
However, his tournament came to an end in the quarter-finals when he was beaten 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 by Valentin Vacherot, who was, at the time, World No. 204. The Monegasque then went on to shock the world further by beating Djokovic in the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters before defeating Arthur Rinderknech in the final to win the tournament.

While Rune is currently competing at the Stockholm Open, Djokovic is set to take on Sinner in the semi-finals of the Six Kings Slam in Dubai. A win over the world No. 2 will see him face either Carlos Alcaraz or Taylor Fritz in the grand final of the event.
