Former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg has welcomed a new baby just days after being given a one-year community payback order for admitting to a domestic abuse charge.
The 32-year-old admitted to shouting and swearing and acting in an abusive manner towards his wife Gillian. He is currently going through the process of a divorce.
Hogg had previously been given a five-year non-harassment order and fined £600 after breaching bail conditions.
During an appearance at Selkirk Sheriff Court, Hogg was given the payback order meaning he’ll be supervised in the community, with another non-harassment order having been handed out.
However, a little under two months from the verdict, Hogg’s current partner – Scottish television presenter Leonna Mayor – revealed she’s given birth.
Posting on Instagram to her 37k followers, Leonna said: “So that was a BIG week … one that presented us with our little man. A beautiful perfect bundle on 12/2/2025 at just 4lb 6oz [bear and blue heart emoji].
“I’ve been in a baby bubble for a week and we’ve been closely monitored and wonderfully cared for by the midwives here in Saint Roch hospital. He’s feeding like a trooper and was allowed home on Wednesday.
“Thank you for all your love and support as always and for the friends and family who have already wished us well, checked in on us and sent their congratulations.
“We truly appreciate it. Apologies for the incoming baby spam it’s going to be constant FYI AND HOW DID I NOT KNOW HOW UNBELIEVABLE IT IS TO HAVE A BABY.”
Hogg is currently plying his trade for Montpellier in France, and even though the rugby club didn’t issue a statement following the verdict, the BBC reported it’s understood they still want him to continue playing.
Speaking at the time of the conviction, Lynne Barrie, procurator fiscal for Lothian and Borders, said Hogg has been: “held accountable for years of domestic abuse towards his estranged wife.
She added the Crown Office was: “robust prosecution of offences, regardless of who the offender is.
“No-one should have to live in fear of a partner or former partner.
“The trauma suffered by victims – and children who witness these crimes – is significant. I would urge anyone affected by similar offending to come forward and report it.”
