Diogo Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, has broken her silence on social media following the Liverpool star’s tragic passing.

She posted a touching Instagram image showing the couple holding hands at their wedding ceremony, which occurred merely two weeks before Jota, 27, and his brother were killed in a devastating car accident.

“1 month of our ‘until death do us part’,” Cardoso penned in the caption. “Forever, your little white girl.”

The couple were parents to three youngsters – sons Dinis and Duarte, plus a daughter whose identity remains private.

The Liverpool striker and his brother, Andre Silva, lost their lives during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 3 in Spain.

Spanish police have said ‘all the tests carried out for the moment point’ to Jota driving the Lamborghini at the time of the incident. Authorities also said at the time: “Everything is also pointing to a possible high excess of speed over the permitted speed on that stretch of the motorway.”

Jota and Silva’s family and friends were joined by current and former Liverpool players as well as Portugal star’s at the funeral in his homeland. The Reds, in remembrance, have choden to retire the No.20 shirt that he wore.

Liverpool wrote in a statement: “It was the number he wore with pride and distinction, leading us to countless victories in the process – and Diogo Jota will forever be Liverpool Football Club’s number 20.

“After consultation with his wife, Rute, and family, the club can announce the squad number will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels, including LFC Women and Academy.

“The move is recognition of not only the immeasurable contribution our lad from Portugal made to the Reds’ on-pitch successes over the last five years, but also the profound personal impact he had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the everlasting connections he built with them.”
