Diablo 4 fans are counting down to the release of update 2.2.2 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
The big new Diablo 4 update has been given a May 27 release date by developer Blizzard. Fans can expect the patch to drop at around 6pm BST UK time.
According to the patch notes further down the page, the new update makes big changes to Masterworking, specifically from Rank 1 to Rank 4.
In a post on the Diablo 4 website, a Blizzard spokesperson said the intent is to “ensure costs besides Obducite and Gold don’t limit Masterworking, especially when the player engages in a significant number of Masterwork Resets”.
Indeed, once the update goes live the materials cost of Masterworking (with the exception of Obducite and Gold) will be reduced, alongside the Masterwork Reset requirements.
Elsewhere, Blizzard has announced plans to automatically disable the DirectStorage setting in order to investigate performance issues. Fortunately, if you still want to benefit from the improved load times, you can re-enable the setting by following the steps outlined in the patch notes below.
Needless to say, the latest Diablo 4 update also makes a series of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks across the board.
This includes fixes for some of the accessbility settings, as well as fixes for seasonal issues and problems with the user-interface.
Interestingly, update 2.2.2 doesn’t include any balance adjustments for the game’s different character classes and abilities. Expect these gameplay tweaks to go live when the next season starts later this year.
Diablo 4 is currently in the middle of a crossover event with legendary Manga series Berserk, where players can unlock various cosmetic rewards and other bonuses.

Base Game Update
• The basic materials cost of Masterworking through Ranks 1–4 has been reduced, as well as the Masterwork Reset requirements. All costs except Obducite and Gold have been substantially reduced.
• We are disabling the DirectStorage setting to investigate performance issues. If you’d like to continue using DirectStorage to take advantage of faster load times on supported NVMe drives, you can re-enable it through these steps:
– Open the Battle.net Launcher
– Navigate to Diablo IV—”(Gear Icon) next to Play”—Game Settings
– Check “Additional command line arguments”
– Add: -enableds

• Fixed an issue where the Screen Reader wouldn’t read cosmetic details in the Reliquary Menu.
