There’s nothing more frustrating than when you’re peckish and ready to whip up your next meal only to discover you’ve neglected to take your meat out of the freezer. Fortunately, a straightforward trick could help expedite the process for you, reports the Mirror.

Most individuals will know to remove their meat from the freezer the night before or at least a few hours prior to use and let it defrost in the fridge until it’s thawed. You could also place the bag of meat in a bowl of water, or even pop it in the microwave with the defrosting option. However, if you’re after a swift way to defrost your meat that doesn’t consume any extra energy, one woman has revealed her go-to method to defrost meat which you can do whilst you’re preparing your meal.

In a recent TikTok video, a food enthusiast was seen using frozen mince meat to create a mince and potato roulade. But what truly grabbed her viewer’s attention was the way she thawed her meat.

At the start of her video, the woman is seen with a frozen block of mince meat that she portioned out in a clear plastic bag.

She proceeded to grab two large saucepans, positioning the first one upside down on the kitchen counter. Next, she placed the bag of frozen meat at the bottom.

Then, she covered it with another pan and allowed the meat to commence defrosting. As you can see by her delighted face, it takes significantly less time when you do it this way.

Metal conducts heat efficiently, drawing warmth from the surrounding air to rapidly thaw the meat through contact. This method harnesses the combined heat-transferring properties of the metal pans to dramatically speed up the defrosting process.

You can also fill the upper pot with warm or hot water to accelerate the procedure even more. Whilst defrosting times vary depending on the meat’s thickness and type, this approach can significantly reduce the duration compared to air-thawing.

People were quick to share their amazement, as countless viewers rushed to the video’s comments section to express their thoughts.

One commented, “I had a horrible day but I learnt how to defrost meat… thank you,” whilst another added, “Oh man, I just got some minced meat out!!!! I’m going to try it now!”

According to the Food Standards Agency, the optimal method to defrost meat is to place it in the refrigerator until it’s thawed. This prevents the meat from becoming too warm, and therefore getting exposed to bacteria.

It’s essential to consume food within 24 hours once it’s completely thawed, as it will deteriorate in the same manner as fresh food. When defrosting your food, ensure it’s thoroughly thawed and that the thickest part of the food is fully defrosted.

Partially thawed food might not cook uniformly, potentially allowing dangerous bacteria to survive the cooking process.
