Davis Webb withdraws name from Raiders head coaching search

Davis Webb has taken his name out of the running for the Raiders head coaching job on Thursday.

The ex-Giants QB interviewed for the Raiders position earlier this week but has opted not to continue to pursue the role, according to multiple reports.

That decision appears to be connected with the interest Webb has been garnering for an offensive coordinator role.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that Webb is considered a “prime candidate” for the Broncos’ offensive coordinator job, along with the other requests that he received to interview for vacant OC jobs around the league.

It was reported earlier this week that the Giants, along with the Ravens and Eagles, requested interviews with Webb for their offensive coordinator jobs. Philadelphia hired Sean Mannion to fill its vacancy on Thursday. Webb is soon expected to have a virtual interview with the Giants.

The former NFL signal-caller — who is currently the Broncos’ passing game coordinator — interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Ravens and Bills as well, and James Palmer, co-host of The Athletic’s “Scoop City” podcast, reported that teams liked what they saw from him in interviews.

“Davis Webb certainly impressed during his HC interviews,” Palmer wrote on X. “To the point that some in the interview process came away fully believing at just 31 he is ready to be a head coach right now I’m told. Others said they wouldn’t disagree with that notion, but also suggested another year with Sean Payton isn’t a bad thing either. The future is very bright for Webb nevertheless.”

Webb has been credited with helping develop Bo Nix, with the Broncos quarterback praising his tutelage.

“He’s always prepared me extremely well, especially from the get-go,” Nix said during the 2024 season. “He played the position and knows what it’s like to walk into a game. He prepares me on a very good level and we’re always ready for the task at hand.”
