Daniel Craig is best known for playing the iconic role of James Bond and is happily married to movie star Rachel Weisz, but before he settled down with her, he was romantically linked to several women. The Bond actor once dated a Love Actually actress for a number of years, who was known for her role as the scheming office assistant. Daniel dated the German actress Heike Makatsch for seven years, and fans will know her as Mia, who took a fancy to Alan Rickman’s character in the festive film. Alan’s character, Harry, splashed his money on an expensive gold necklace for Mia, which devastated his wife, who was played by Emma Thompson. Luckily, Daniel and Heike’s relationship was far less dramatic in real life.
The pair dated for seven years before splitting on good terms. According to The Mirror, Daniel later said that work schedules kept them apart for long periods of time. He once said, “Film sets have caused a lot of break-ups; marriages go down the tubes. It’s bloody lonely.”
Daniel then met his now-wife, Rachel Weisz, after the pair worked together on the 2011 film, The Dream House. They’d previously met at university, but this time a friendship turned into a romance.
At first Rachel wasn’t wholly interested in the idea of marriage, but Daniel changed her mind. She said in an interview in 2018, “It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies, marriage seems to be the whole point of them.
“Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment.”
She then said, “I wear my ring with pride. I’m taken.” The couple now share two children together.
A number of actors have been tipped as possible contenders to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. Craig’s last appearance as 007 was in the 2021 spy flick, No Time To Die.
The search for a new Bond looks set to continue after the franchise was taken over by Amazon MGM Studios following the exit of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and a recent report suggests 007 will be getting a massive shake-up, taking the character back several decades.
