Dan Hurley’s wife calls out St. John’s fans for rooting against UConn in March Madness: ‘Crappy’

The Big East beef between St. John’s and UConn is real.

Dan Hurley’s wife, Andrea, isn’t having it.

The First Lady of UConn men’s basketball joined “The Field of 68: After Dark” and ripped the rival Red Storm faithful for cheering against them last weekend in Washington, D.C.

Both St. John’s and UConn played Friday in the Sweet 16.

“When we went to the game, all those St. John’s fans were rooting against [UConn],” she said, seemingly referring to UConn’s Sweet 16 win over Michigan.

“And that just broke my heart. … It’s really sad. It’s crappy … That was just crappy.”

The Johnnies met their fate in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader in the nation’s capital, blowing a second-half lead in a loss to No. 1 seed Duke.

Hurley said she rooted for St. John’s in that game, even though they beat the Huskies two of three times this season.

“Do I want to play them? Probably not,” Hurley said. “But I didn’t want to play Duke either. So, we were rooting for St. John’s.”

UConn nearly wasted a 19-point lead in a tight win over Michigan State in the nightcap, and then took down the Blue Devils in the Elite Eight thanks to a miracle 3-pointer from freshman Braylon Mullins.

According to her husband, Andrea had a hand in securing the victory.

During Wednesday’s “Pardon My Take” podcast, Dan said his significant other was a “Jersey boss lady” for holding Huskies players back from storming the court, thus preventing a technical foul after Mullins gave UConn a 73-72 lead with 0.4 seconds remaining.

“Yeah, she’s a boss. She’s the Jersey boss lady,” Dan said ahead of his third Final Four in four years. “And her language is colorful, too. I mean, she was grabbing people around the back of their warmups. And she doesn’t know anything about basketball, you know?

“I said to her on the plane, ‘This is wild. Three out of four years, you’re going to the Final Four. Did you ever imagine this with your life?’

“And she’s like, ‘I didn’t even know the Final Four existed until four years ago.’”

The UConn men’s basketball team gave Andrea a shoutout on X, posting a video of her motioning for players to get on the bench.

“She immediately starts motioning to the bench man, look at this 😭,” the caption read. “Team player!!”

The Hurley’s celebrated 28 years together in August.
