A British TikToker has shared his nightmare experience of travelling to Cyprus in a video post to his channel. Cyprus is a hugely popular destination for Brits heading abroad to spend some time on the beaches and to work on their tans.
In the first eight months of last year, around 2.75 million visitors travelled to the holiday island. Brits were by far the largest single contingent of holidaymakers, with 192,424 heading to Cyprus for some rest and relaxation. With the summer season reaching a peak, airports on the island are working at maximum capacity to process visitors.
However, one holidaying Brit was left less than impressed by his experiences of arriving at Larnaca International Airport.
The irate holidaymaker posted a video of passport control at what he claimed was Larnaca Airport. The video shows the forecourt by passport control jammed to the rafters with people waiting to be processed by border control staff.
The TikToker wrote: “Never ever will I travel to Cyprus through Larnaca airport again. The worst airport ever. Larnaca airport is hell.”
However, not everyone was in agreement with the angry Tiktoker’s assessment, with many jumping to the defence of the airport. One wrote: “I came yesterday and it was empty.” While another said: “I often travel through the airport and I’ve never seen it so full…must be an unlucky day.”
A third countered: “Don’t believe TikTok. I am here now and it’s empty. Will be posting a video.”
Larnaca International Airport (LCA) handled 8.6 million passengers in 2024 and aims to increase capacity to 12.4 million.
The operators of LCA – Hermes Airports – are building a new wing with departure and arrival gates that will connect to the main building.
There will also be additional baggage reclaim belts, new passport and security control processing areas, as well as more parking space.
In total, the new work will cover an area of approximately 20,000 square metres and should be completed in 30 months.
