The Big Apple’s true colors will be shining through.
Pop legend Cyndi Lauper will perform beneath the glow of Ground Zero’s iconic annual “Tribute in Light” — the projection of two blue beams where the Twin Towers once stood — Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
The “Time After Time” and “True Colors” singer’s performance will conclude a first-of-its-kind national broadcast that honors the memory of the victims and “the resilience of survivors, families, first responders, and communities forever changed by that day,” the September 11 Memorial & Museum announced Tuesday.
“I’m grateful to be a part of the 9/11 Tribute in Light. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years,” Lauper said in a statement. “Like so many of us, I feel like it was just yesterday.
“I was outside the city that morning and desperate to get back to my family, a luxury that, sadly, a lot of people were not afforded.
“I am honored to sing for them, those that we lost, and the families and friends who remain, and for my city. We will never forget.”
The Brooklyn-born and Queens-raised singer will join Lainey Wilson and John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting for the first-ever “9/11 Tribute in Light: Live from Lower Manhattan” event.
The one-hour special will air on Disney-associated platforms starting at 8 p.m. to coincide with the annual “Tribute in Light” installation.
The primetime special will be hosted by “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir, “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts and anchor Diane Sawyer.
Another program, the “Paying Tribute: Live from Lower Manhattan,” will air ahead of the inaugural event and will include inspiring stories of resilience and healing in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
As in previous years, dozens of other buildings throughout the five boroughs — and across the US — will also illuminate their facades and rooftops in blue to coincide with the art installation.
