Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece has finally revealed the reason he has been wearing an eye patch recently after royal fans raised their concerns.
On Friday, December 1, his wife, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece posted a photo on Instagram showing the son of the late Constantine II wearing an eye patch.
She didn’t give any explanation as to why the royal was wearing it but candidly joked in the caption: “Hopefully a temporary new look [eyes emoji] but he’s kind of cute [heart emoji], however, her followers were concerned.
Last Monday, the royal couple attended the 2023 British Fashion Awards and the Crown Prince was still wearing his eye patch.
But now Pavlos shared his thank you message on social media giving a brief explanation of his condition.
He said: “Thank you very much for your kind interest and wishes! A week ago I had retinal detachment surgery in London.
“The surgery was successful but I am not allowed to travel for some time. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season”.
The first cousin of King Felipe VI of Spain is said to complete his recovery from his home in New York, which he shares with Marie-Chantal and their children Olympia, Constantine, Achilles, Odysseus and Aristides Stavros. The couple married on July 1, 1995.
Pavlos, born on May 20, 1967, is the second child and eldest son of the last King of Greece Constantine II and his wife Anne Marie of Denmark.
His wife has sometimes been criticised over her “complicated” relationship with Queen Letizia of Spain and for her scathing comments against Prince Harry over his memoir, Spare.
Marie-Chantal was thought to be on not-so-great terms with Letizia after commenting on an incident involving Letizia’s mother-in-law, Queen Sofia of Spain.
