Create luxurious hotel room feel at home with expert’s simple tips

From selecting high-quality bedding to incorporating mood-setting lighting, some easy upgrades can elevate your space into a calming sanctuary.

To create a hotel-inspired bedroom that feels luxurious and relaxing, there are a few key elements you can focus on to elevate your space.

According to Joanne Dodsworth, Head of Bedrooms at Wren, one of the first steps is investing in high-quality bedding.

“Choose natural materials like Egyptian cotton or sateen for their breathable, crisp feel that enhances sleep quality,” she advised.

A fluffy duvet or comforter is essential for achieving that cosy, hotel-like feel, with Joan suggesting a down or down-alternative fill for “the perfect balance of warmth and lightness.”

To further enhance comfort, adding a mattress topper—whether memory foam or downfilled—creates a soft yet supportive surface that makes your mattress feel brand new.

Lighting also plays a crucial role in setting the right mood, as during the darker months, a well-lit room can lift your spirits and create a soothing atmosphere.

Joanne recommends using a combination of different lighting types: “Use dimmable ceiling fixtures to set the room’s general brightness. This allows you to transition between brighter light for tasks and softer light for relaxation.”

She also recommends bedside lamps with adjustable brightness and choosing the ones with warm tones.

“These provide a soft glow perfect for nighttime reading or unwinding,” the expert highlighted.

For a truly relaxing environment, consider incorporating a seating area if space allows. A cosy spot to read or relax can elevate your room’s comfort and functionality.

“Choose the right furniture for your room, consider multifunctional pieces like storage ottomans or poufs, which can double as seating or footrests, or a single, plush armchair for a cozy reading nook,” said Joanne.

She also recommends placing the seating area near a window to take advantage of natural light and views.

Minimalism is a hallmark of luxury hotel rooms, and creating hidden storage is key to achieving that serene, clutter-free look.

“Consider fitted wardrobes with sliding doors and internal compartments to maximise storage while keeping the exterior sleek,” Joanne explained.

You can also add storage solutions like slim racks, shoe organisers, or hooks inside closet doors to keep accessories neatly out of sight.

For even more hidden storage, consider options like over-bed cabinets or a bed frame with built-in drawers.

Finally, don’t forget to add a personal touch with artwork and mirrors. Oversized mirrors can reflect light and make a room feel more spacious, while bold art can serve as an eye-catching focal point that ties the room together.
