Couple 'gorge on meal at Thai restaurant before fleeing in taxi without paying the bill'

The bosses of a Thai restaurant say they have been left furious after a couple visited their restaurant and didn’t pay the bill. Two people visited the Copperstone in Linthorpe and enjoyed a meal, but allegedly avoided paying for their food.

The restaurant has since checked its CCTV and claim the couple can be seen “running down the road and getting into a taxi”, TeesideLive reports.

It is not yet known what they bought and how much they spent.

The Copperstone – which is run by Craig Rennison from Stonehouse Street – has posted a video of the pair in the hope they can identify them.

They have tried to call them on the number used for their booking, but with no success, the statement on Facebook said.

The same thing happened to the Copperstone last June, when owner Craig said another couple had eaten £100 worth of food and run off on the bill.

Craig said that this is becoming a regular issue for hospitality venues adding that he put the video on Facebook “to make other businesses aware of this happening and hope these people get recognised”.

The full post said: “We need some help, can everyone please share this post? These two lovely people came in for what looked like a nice romantic meal last tonight at the Copperstone in Middlesbrough. They ordered food and drinks as normal and obviously wanted to get home – only they forgot to pay us.

“We do have the booking name and telephone number but no one is answering. We will give them the opportunity to come in and pay and if they don’t pay by tomorrow we will then pass this theft onto the relevant people.

“If you know them, please feel free to tag them and remind them. Hopefully, they were late getting somewhere and they forgot to pay as we can see them running down the road and getting into a taxi. The building and the road is full of CCTV.”
