The idea of starting a renovation project can be exciting, but we all know how time-consuming it could turn out to be.
But if you decide to take matters into your own hands, there’s a lot of savings that can be had. Now one couple who bought a 1980s property revealed how they saved £60,000 on their project.
After buying the “dull” and “tired” home, Sophie and her family wanted to revamp their entire house once and for all. Posting on TikTok, under the account home_by_the_cloud, which boasts 31,500 followers, the mum shared her tips.
She told followers the couple saved a whopping £60,000 on renovations and even shared the secret behind it. In the video, it began: “How we saved over £60,000 on the renovations of our dull and tired 1980s home.
“Here’s how we did it… and which projects we made the savings on…”
It begins by showing what the home looked like before it was touched, before revealing the hard work put into modernising it. The front door opens to a gorgeous hallway with beige walls and white panelling.
The bathroom also had a revamp with the detail looking much fresher. Even the garden looks so much more different since the couple took matters into their own hands.
During the renovation, the couple also welcomed a baby which made their project even more special. The video continued: “By researching, shopping around…
“Doing as much as the DIY as we can ourselves… and coming up with the designs… Plus having the determination to create a dream home for our family.”
Discussing the project in more detail, Sophie mentioned how they bought their dream kitchen for £13,000 instead of the £50,000 which was the original quote.
“We transformed our hallway walls for £250 instead of the £2,000 we were quoted,” the video continued. “We replaced our plastic conservatory roof for £2,500 instead of the £15,000 we were quoted.”
Next the pair upcycled furniture instead of buying new stuff which helped saved a huge sum too. The video concluded: “We’re building our own built in wardrobes for £1,000 instead of the £8,000 we were quoted.
“If you’re looking for budget home renovation ideas and affordable home finds. Follow along for the journey…”
Giving more help in the caption, Sophie said: “My main piece of advice would be not to rush projects, spend time getting quotes and shop around for materials. It’s amazing the differences in price and the amount you can save.”
People were in awe as one said: “I have serious home envy, looks great.” Another added: “Looks fabulous.”
