A significant drop in temperatures is set to hit the UK, as new weather maps reveal that mercury levels could plummet as low as -10C certain areas next week.

The dramatic shift to colder conditions is forecast for Monday, November 25, bringing widespread frost, snow, and biting winds.

The latest data from WXCharts show the arrival of an Arctic air mass that will sweep across the UK.

Temperatures are forecast to drop sharply overnight, with Scotland seeing the most extreme lows.

Cities like Inverness and Aberdeen are likely to experience freezing conditions, with the mercury dipping to -10C in some parts of the Scottish Highlands.

Further south, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are also bracing for the cold spell.

Regions such as Manchester, Birmingham, and Cardiff may see minimum temperatures between 0C and 3C, while London and the southeast are forecast to hover just above freezing.

Accompanying the freezing temperatures is the increased likelihood of snowfall in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Snow depth maps predict up to 20cm in elevated areas of northern Scotland, with lighter flurries reaching parts of northeast England.

These snowy conditions may result in icy roads, disruptions to travel, and increased risks for commuters.

Ireland and parts of northwest England could also see snow showers mixed with sleet and freezing rain, further complicating road conditions.

The 850 hPa temperature maps indicate a powerful polar vortex, driving cold air across the UK.

High-pressure systems to the west and a low-pressure system over Scandinavia are funneling this Arctic blast southward.

These patterns create the perfect setup for a sharp drop in temperatures and enhanced wintery precipitation.

Meteorologists urge the public to prepare for the cold spell by ensuring homes are adequately heated and vehicles are winter-ready.
