Cleaner shares ‘brilliant’ hack to remove pet hairs clothes

Tired of having to remove pet hairs from your clothes even after they have been in the washing machine?

If so, a cleaner has a simple hack that may come to your aid – and all it requires is adding one extra item to the drum. Claire, known as Sister Pledge on social media, took to TikTok to reveal how she regularly combats the problem herself.

“I have cats, dogs and guinea pigs – if you have any laundry that has pet hairs on it, throw a couple of Velcro rollers in the machine and these will pick up the hairs,” she advised in a video. To remove the hair from the rollers afterwards, meanwhile, Claire said simply rub them together after the wash and pick it off and they’re ready to use again.

“They’re cheap and you can get them from any chemist, or places like Savers or B&M – they’re just a couple of pounds each” she added of the rollers. “Get as many in the machine as you think you’ll need – you can use five or six if it’s very hairy.”

But can the rollers cause damage to your clothes? “Don’t worry,” Claire assures. “They won’t – as long as the fabric your washing is things like cotton or linen. Just don’t put them in with delicates – silks or woollens. “

Claire summarised: “They quietly catch all the fluff while your laundry does its thing. Afterwards, just rub them together to clean and reuse. Cheap, easy, and weirdly satisfying.”

Responding to the tip, one TikTok user praised: “Wow ,great idea thanks. Got cat hair all over the clothes.” A second concurred: ” Brilliant idea. Suppose you could put them in the tumble dryer as well.”

A third person hailed the idea: “Amazing! I’ve got two black cats, the pet hair in the machine drives me insane.” A fourth TikTok user admitted: “Why have I never thought of this? I’ve used pet hair dissolver and loads of ridiculous other things that have never worked! Can’t wait to try this!”

Whilst a fifth shared: “Think you just have made my life so much easier! I’ve got a gaggle of Newfoundlands (hair lands everywhere) and my towels always come out in clumps of dog hair – thanks for this.”

Washing machine manufacturer, Candy, has an additional piece of advice on it’s website, which reads: “White vinegar saves us in many home life situations, and it can also be very helpful when dealing with these annoying enemies. Before turning your washer on, add about 120 ml of vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser: its acetic acid will free up the pet hair that’s stuck in the material.”

The company also notes: “Periodical maintenance is very important, even more so if you’re dealing with a whole lot of pet hair on your clothes. Therefore, make a habit of wiping down the drum of your washing machine or washer dryer regularly. Remember to clean or change the filter periodically as well.”
