Now that spring is here and the sun is shining, you may notice your windows look stained, but it is easy to get them sparkling clean in just 10 minutes. Windows often look dirty at this time of year due to the dust and rain streaks left behind during the colder months, which can also make it easier for pollen to stick to the glass.
Cleaning windows properly can be tricky, as it is easy to leave behind streaks, smudges and watermarks if you do not know what you are doing. Luckily, Becky Rapinchuk, the founder of Clean Mama, has shared that the best way to deep clean windows is to use three natural ingredients.
She said: “My favourite way to wash windows? I do them as quickly as possible and this method is how….”
How to clean windows in spring
You will need:
- Four tablespoons of castile soap (or washing up liquid)
- Four tablespoons of rubbing alcohol
- Half a gallon of warm water
What is fantastic about both rubbing alcohol, castile soap and washing up liquid is that they all evaporate very quickly, so you will have a powerful cleaner that will not leave behind any marks on the glass.
Rubbing alcohol is a disinfectant to will remove any bacteria on window glass as well as get rid of any streaks and finger marks.
Castile soap is a very gentle soap made out of olive oil, which has been designed to break down grease and is fantastic at getting rid of stuck-on dirt.
Alternatively, washing-up liquid soap has the same properties as castile soap and can be used instead, as it was also made to break oils, fats and grease stains.
Method
To begin, add four tablespoons of castile soap (or washing-up liquid) and four tablespoons of rubbing alcohol to a container.
Pour half a gallon of warm water into the container, and you are ready to clean. Carry the container to your windows and place a towel underneath it in case of any spills.
Put on a pair of gloves and then dip either a squeegee or a cloth into the cleaning solution. Wring out your cloth or wipe away any excess water on your squeegee
Then clean your windows left to right. Keep getting rid of any excess water every time you apply the solution.
Use a microfiber cloth to dry the windows, and they should be sparkling clean.
Your windows will stay gleaming and smudge-free for a month or longer, depending on how windy or rainy the next few weeks are.
