Clean and ‘disinfect’ floors with 1 natural ingredient

If you want to have gleaming floors, but don’t want the smell of  cleaning chemicals giving you a headache, there is a better alternative. In many British homes, vinyl flooring is common.

This low-maintenance flooring is great for bathrooms and kitchens or other high-traffic areas, and one of the benefits is it’s easy enough to clean. However, there are some things to be aware of. Abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals can discolour your floors and over time, can degrade them.

To have perfect, gleaming floors all the time, the best thing to do is keep on top of them. Regular sweeping and vacuuming will stop them becoming too gritty.

How to mop vinyl floors

When it is time to properly clean your floors, you don’t need bleach to have them properly cleaned.

Instead, Southern Living recommends using a mixture of hot water and apple cider vinegar to give your floors the best shine.

To get your floors fresh, the first thing you need to do is ensure they are free of dust and debris by sweeping.

Then, fill a mop bucket with one cup of apple cider vinegar and three litres of hot water.

Dip your mop into the solution and wring out excess water very well. You don’t want too much water, as it can damage the vinyl flooring, so make sure whatever you’re using is damp and not sopping wet.

Mop your floors in one direction, trying not to move back on yourself. Remember to regularly wring your mop out.

Once you have mopped, you can follow up by drying the excess liquid from the flooring with a dry towel or microfibre cloth.
