Winter weekends are perfect for baking. If you want to make your house smell incredible, and enjoy a delicious treat with your morning tea or coffee, then cinnamon buns are a great choice.
They’re sweet, spicy and delicious with a rich cream cheese icing – the perfect indulgence. This recipe from Danielle Cochran, creator of the Salty Cooker, creates a soft luscious roll that tastes like heaven. Plus, it’s an easy recipe with no proofing required – perfect for a lazy Saturday.
1. Start by making your dough. Whisk together your milk, butter, egg sugar and vanilla then sprinkle your yeast over the top and let it sit for two to three minutes.
2. Add your flour and then mix with a dough hook attachment until a soft ball falls – around five to eight minutes.
3. Cover your dough with plastic wrap and a towel and let it sit for an hour for its first rise.
4. Butter a 9×12 pan and mix your cinnamon and sugar in a separate bowl.
5. On a lightly floured surface, spread your dough and cover it on the butter then sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar. Roll tightly from the long side for nine smaller rolls, or the shorter side for six large. Slice evenly and place in your dish.
6. Cover the dish again and let rise for another 45 minutes to an hour, then bake at 175C for half an hour or until golden.
7. While your rolls are cooling slightly, beat together your butter, cream cheese, icing sugar, vanilla and milk to make your icing and then pour over the rolls while they’re still warm.
8. Serve and enjoy.
