If you fancy a spooky fright night this month, one film that has been labelled as “undeniably scary” and “creepy” is now available to stream on Netflix. The film in question is It Follows, which was released in 2015 and stars scream queen actress Maika Monroe. With an impressive score of 93% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it has been regarded as one of the most acclaimed horror films of the 21st century. Before starring in 2014’s LongLegs, Maika shot to fame in this cult classic from director David Robert Mitchell. It is undeniably a sinister and unsettling watch, as Maika’s character attempts to battle an unseen evil force that passes between victims during sexual intercourse.
But this is not just any unseen force. Once the fatal curse catches you, its victims are immediately doomed. The movie gained widespread critical acclaim, especially for being original and for its “terrifying” plot.
One critic said on Rotten Tomatoes, “Smart, original, and above all terrifying, It Follows is the rare modern horror film that works on multiple levels – and leaves a lingering sting.”
A second critic lauded it with praise and said, “Its meticulous directorial vision and thematic ambition are what make it a modern masterwork. Once you see It Follows it will follow you forever.”
