The Chiefs are bringing back an old friend at wide receiver — but maybe not the one people were anticipating.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid announced that the Chiefs signed Justin Watson to their practice squad.

Watson was previously with Kansas City from 2022-24 before heading to Houston in free agency in 2025, where he played two regular season games before suffering an Achilles/calf injury that kept him out until the final week of the season.

He also appeared on the special teams squad during the playoffs.

“He was a good player for us when he was here,” Reid told reporters on a video call following the bye week. “Obviously, he can run, and he’s fast; he has great size. He’s willing to do everything; he knows the offense; he’s a smart kid.”

The move was made in part due to wideout Tyquan Thornton hitting injured reserve after a gruesome dislocated left ankle suffered in Week 4.

He will miss at least the next four games.

Rumors continue to swirl about the possibility of a reunion with Tyreek Hill following Thornton’s injury last weekend.

The Athletic’s Michael Silver reported that the Chiefs reached out to Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus about the possibility of bringing Hill back, though Hill continues to deal with several legal issues.

The report came after Hill’s social media post of “hm” immediately following Thornton’s injury.

Hill won Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs in 2020 before being traded to the Dolphins and signing a four-year extension in 2022.

The five-time All-Pro suffered his own gruesome injury to his knee last season before being released by Miami, and he’d be targeting a November return to the gridiron should a team bring him on — though that may be complicated as his contentious divorce from Keeta Vaccaro includes allegations of physical abuse.
