Chelsea player ratings vs Wolves: Gittens runs the show with two 9/10s in chaotic victory | Football | Sport

Liam Delap was shown the red card on his comeback from injury as Chelsea defeated Wolves in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Delap, making his first appearance since August, came on with half an hour of normal time remaining but quickly received two yellow cards. There has been a sending-off in six of Chelsea’s last nine matches in all competitions and Delap is now banned for the upcoming game against Tottenham.

Early goals from Andrey Santos and Tyrique George put the Blues ahead by two before Estevao Willian had Chelsea comfortably leading at half-time. However, a second-half resurgence from Wolves, thanks to goals from Tolu Arokodare and David Moller Wolfe, caused some late jitters from a Chelsea standpoint. Despite this, they managed to cling on to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Here’s how each Chelsea player performed at Molineux…

Chelsea player ratings vs Wolves

Filip Jorgensen – 6

A somewhat shaky start saw the goalkeeper rush out of his goal to intercept a cross, failing to make the desired connection. He couldn’t do much about any of the goals.

Malo Gusto – 6

Spent considerable time in Wolves’ half. While he didn’t do much, not noticing a defender isn’t always a negative.

Josh Acheampong – 7

Made a crucial interception at the near post at 36 minutes to cut off a cross from David Wolfe. He appeared typically composed and confident with the ball.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 5

Had an easy first half but was called into action more frequently in the second. It would have been preferable to see him win more headers with the constant balls coming into the box.

Jorrel Hato – 6

Made a good recovery run at the 29-minute mark to deny Wolves a decent opportunity. His passing was consistent throughout the match.

Romeo Lavia – 7

His excellent play led to George’s goal. Facing the ball with his face towards the goal, he managed to turn and squeeze it through a tiny gap to advance his side up the pitch.

Andrey Santos – 9

Had a fantastic start to the evening with a fine finish into the bottom corner. Did brilliantly for Estevao’s goal, winning the ball high up the pitch with a well-timed press.

Estevao Willian – 8

Had a couple of early attempts from the edge of the box that didn’t pose a threat. His goal came just before the half-time break, with a delicate dink getting the better of Sa.

Facundo Buonanotte – 5

Had a good game until the start of the second half. The Argentine lost possession too easily, and Wolves were clinical when it counted.

Jamie Gittens – 9

Performed brilliantly for Santos’ goal, gliding past one player and delivering a perfect pass. He also played a crucial role in George’s goal, setting it up perfectly for his attacking partner. And that goal… incredible. He had no right.

Tyrique George – 8

Doubled Chelsea’s lead with a classic poacher’s finish from close range. His movement was excellent, positioning himself perfectly.

Substitutes

Liam Delap – 2

It was great to see him back on the pitch, albeit briefly. Suspended for the Spurs match.

Marc Cucurella – 6

Came on in midfield and brought some much-needed experience when Chelsea seemed a bit shaken.

Enzo Fernandez – 6

Got a run out in midfield. He passed the ball well as Chelsea tried to secure the win.

Moises Caicedo – n/a

Came on to help see out the game.
