There’s a line in the movie “John Wick” where the titular character gives an impassioned speech that ends with his most famous line in the franchise: “People keep asking if I’m back, and I haven’t really had an answer. But now, yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.”
Patrick Mahomes announced to the NFL that he’s back after two strong performances, and I get the feeling he’s looking to carve up the Dolphins’ defense (figuratively speaking) like Wick did the Russian mafia.
Oddsmakers seem to think so as well because the Chiefs are as much as 11-point road favorites in Miami this week.
Chiefs vs. Dolphins prediction, best bet
We knew the Dolphins would be bad this season, but their start has been worse than expected.
Miami didn’t keep much of its team intact from the previous regime, but De’Von Achane is the one piece on offense we expected the team would rely on.
He proved to be a dynamic weapon out of the backfield over his first three seasons, but his powers have been stripped in this new offense.
Achane has amassed just 159 total yards through two games, and the Dolphins’ offense is at the bottom of the league in scoring.
That has put even more pressure on a defense that was already expected to be poor.
The Dolphins rank last in the NFL in points allowed per drive and 30th in average time per drive.
They are the only team in the NFL that hasn’t recorded a sack this season, and they’ve allowed quarterbacks to throw the highest completion percentage in the league (78.8 percent).
It took Mahomes one half of football against the Broncos, one of the best defenses in the NFL, to get comfortable after returning from his knee injury.
Betting on the NFL?
Since halftime of that game, Mahomes is 39 of 56 for 504 passing yards.
If the Dolphins don’t get pressure on Mahomes and he’s allowed to pick them apart, I think he could rack up some serious yardage even in a blowout.
