A top chef, who has a three-Michelin-starred restaurant, has shared her verdict on Meghan Markle’s culinary skills. In a recent interview, award-winning chef Clare Smyth, who runs the fine dining eatery Core on London’s Kensington Park Road, weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex’s knife skills.

With a raft of accolades under her belt, including five AA rosettes and previously working as chef patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Hospital Road, it’s safe to say Clare knows her way around a kitchen. It appears this hasn’t been lost on Meghan, who has brought the Northern Irish chef in for the latest season of the Duchess’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

Clare, who counted Harry and Meghan among her regular guests at Core and even cooked for their wedding reception, shared five words that sum up her thoughts on the Suits actress’ culinary proficiency, saying she’s “actually really good at cooking”.

She told the Sunday Times: “She’s pretty good at filleting a fish.” Summing up her skills, Clare added: “Meghan is actually really good at cooking and she’s creative, with a good palate.”

In the highly anticipated second season of the show, Clare instructs the Duchess on how to create a “very healthy poached halibut with seasonal vegetables and bone broth”.

Clare, who says she’s known the Sussexes a “long time” and that Meghan contacted her personally to request her for the show, explained that the idea was to instruct the Duchess on the art of fine dining.

In preparation for their healthy dish, Clare and Meghan reportedly visited a fish market to make their purchase, and even utilised some of the Sussexes’ homegrown vegetables and herbs.

It follows recent reports that Harry and Meghan have now extended their lucrative deal with the hugely popular streaming giant, in what has been labelled a “multi-year, first look deal”.

As part of this arrangement, the Sussexes have been afforded what the New York Times described as “more options” but “less investment”, with Netflix able to agree to or reject any projects prior to others.

Speaking about the deal, Meghan said they were “proud” to extend their “partnership” with the streaming giant and “expand” their work to include her lifestyle brand.

She added: “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”

Set to premiere on Netflix on August 26, With Love, Meghan will feature eight episodes (released together). US fans can catch the show at midnight, while UK viewers can tune in at 8am.

A description of the show declares that With Love, Meghan will include “celebrity chefs, talented artists, and beloved friends” as they enjoy “hands-on adventures” packed with “laughter and discovery”.
