If you’re already pondering where to purchase your Christmas turkey from, we’ve discovered the most affordable supermarket for this year’s festive bird. It’s not Asda or Lidl as you might expect, but Aldi.
The budget supermarket is offering the UK’s cheapest fresh whole British turkeys this Christmas, with prices starting at just £5.90 (£2.95 per kg) from December 19.
But that’s not all, Aldi has also announced it will be reducing prices on its festive vegetable staples to a mere 15p as part of its popular Christmas Super Six promotion, also available from December 19.
The turkeys come in a variety of sizes and prices to cater to everyone.
Furthermore, Aldi has unveiled a value Christmas dinner package, providing a turkey dinner with all the trimmings for six people for only £11.45, or £1.91 per head.
This eight-piece package includes a Small Fresh British Turkey costing £8.85, or 2.95 per kg, along with Nature’s Pick Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Carrots and Parsnips, all priced at 15p each.
It also features Quixo Sage & Onion Stuffing Mix at 45p for 170g, Quixo Gravy Granules at £1.09 for 300g and a 15-pack of Everyday Essentials Yorkshire Puddings for 46p.
This follows the start of the Christmas price wars among supermarkets, with other grocery chains also slashing the prices of some popular festive vegetables to a mere 15p.
Sainsbury’s led the charge, announcing last week that Nectar Card holders can avail of cheap Christmas vegetables from December 18 to Christmas Eve.
Scott Dixon, of The Complaints Resolver, added: “Grocery prices being lowered is great news at this time of year, and will be welcomed by hard-pressed households after a tough year with budgets being continually squeezed.
“Aldi have stolen a march on competitors with their incredible value Christmas dinner package, although some may question portion sizes and how a small turkey can feed six people.”
