Cheapest new cars ranked with most affordable two-seater electric car priced at £8,000

With the cost-of-living crisis forcing many motorists to save money wherever possible, many are considering buying a cheaper model for their next car.

However, there is still a number of great models that can be bought new for under £14,000 and are incredibly economical to run.

Currently, the cheapest new car on the UK market by quite a considerable margin is the Citroen Ami, a fully electric two-seater that starts at £7,695.

Since it is a quadricycle, as opposed to a more conventional car, the Ami only has a top speed of 28mph, whilst features such as a radio and air conditioning are unavailable.

However, the little Citroen is incredibly agile and fun to drive, making it a good choice for drivers looking for a second car or a small runabout for the city.

The most affordable full-sized car on the UK market is currently the Kia Picanto, with the entry-level 1 priced at £13,695.

A five-door city car, the Picanto features an economical 1.0-litre engine that produces 66bhp and can be ordered with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission.

In addition, like the rest of the Kia range, the Picanto comes with a seven-year warranty, meaning drivers can be sure that most faults will be fixed for free during the time they own it.

Another incredibly low-priced model on sale in the UK is the Dacia Sandero, a Romanian-built hatchback based on the current Renault Clio, with prices starting at £13,795.

Despite prices rising since Dacia first entered the UK market in 2012, the Sandero still offers great value for money, with the Essential trim level featuring a DAB radio, manual air conditioning and cruise control.

Unusually, drivers can choose from two engines at that starting price; a 1.0-litre petrol that makes 90bhp or a slightly more powerful engine that can also be ran on LPG.

The Citroen C3 is an additional choice for drivers looking for an affordable new model, with the You! trim level currently priced at £13,995.

The French company are set to introduce an all-new C3, however the current generation model still has modern and attractive styling.

The C3 You! is also very well equipped for a car of its price, featuring a touchscreen and Bluetooth as standard, along with a punchy 1.2-litre turbocharged engine.
