Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors National Park is a gorgeous village that frequently tops the list of the prettiest in the UK. This tiny village has fewer than 200 residents, but despite its small population, it punches above its weight in terms of beauty.
Hutton-le-Hole is famous for its charming chocolate box houses built in stone brick, the babbling brook and a large iconic walnut tree that stands proud in the centre. The village green sits in the centre of the village, surrounded by charming cottages with the Hutton Beck running through it – perfect for a little summer paddle if you fancy it.
Aside from its picturesque scenery, Hutton-le-Hole has plenty more to explore with tea shops, gift shops, museums and history to explore.
One of the jewels in the crown is the Ryedale Folk Museum which is home to more than 40,000 artefacts from the Iron Age all the way up to the 1950s.
For the more adventurous, you can follow one of many footpaths at the edge of the village on to the Yorkshire Moors with their blanket of stunning purple heather.
These hikes are a great way to explore England’s natural beauty.
Just outside of the village is Pickering Castle, built in 1069 by William the Conqueror atop a hillside. The ruins of this castle are still visible and explorable, perfect for history buffs.
Unlike other ancient ruins, this castle was not destroyed by the War of the Roses or the English Civil War. Today, it is managed by English Heritage and is a fascinating place to explore on a day trip out from the village.
