Charlton Athletic have announced the ‘devastating’ death of Under-10s player Ethan Ade-Oduwale, calling him a ‘cherished member’ of their academy set-up. The Addicks released a heartfelt statement on Tuesday morning, with a host of senior figures at the club paying tribute to the youngster.
No details have been released around the death of Ade-Oduwale, who was described as a ‘shining example’ to his academy team-mates. Charlton’s statement began: “Ethan’s smile, energy and enthusiasm for football will always be remembered by his team-mates and the staff within the academy. From the moment he stepped onto a football pitch at Sparrows Lane, his desire to succeed spread across every session and his love of football will forever be remembered.”
Chairman of the third-tier club, Gavin Carter, added: “On behalf of everyone at Charlton Athletic, we are devastated by the heartbreaking news of Ethan’s passing.
“Our thoughts, heartfelt condolences, and full support are with Ethan’s parents and family. We kindly ask that their privacy – and that of Ethan’s friends, team-mates, and the staff who worked with him – be respected during this incredibly difficult time.”
