The Chargers are not waiting for the opening of free agency to address the interior of the offensive line.
The club has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with center Tyler Biadasz worth $30 million.
After getting cut by the Commanders before the start of free agency in a cost cutting move, Biadasz was immediately available to sign with a new team.
The 28-year-old Biadasz was originally a fourth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2020 and played the last two seasons in Washington.
The Chargers had a pressing need at center after the recent retirement of Bradley Bozeman.
Rather than wait until the start of free agency and bid for the services of Tyler Linderbaum, the Ravens pending free agent, they opted to proactively sign Biadasz.
Linderbaum is still a candidate to resign with the Ravens, but even if he does hit the open market the cost is expected to rise beyond $20 million per season.
The Chargers could have their eye on making a bigger splash at another position, or they could spread around the $99 million they have in cap space — prior to agreeing to terms with Biadasz — to address multiple needs.
