Chaos erupted at a town hall event hosted by one of Donald Trump’s most dedicated supporters, which saw three people arrested. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican representative for Georgia, held the meeting in Atlanta on Tuesday night and was met with fierce opposition. The right-wing politician faced heckles and disruption from some people in the crowd of more than 150.
Three people were arrested and one tasered, while others were escorted out. Ms Greene hit back at the protesters, writing one X: “I’m not intimidated by the Democrats who tried to shut down my town hall tonight. I refused to tolerate their selfish attempts to disrupt an event that was for all of my constituents, not just the ones who could make the most noise. This is the type of business that should be handled at the voting booth.”
Republican congressional leaders have advised their members not to hold town hall meetings, though Ms Greene went against that advice.
She answered pre-submitted questions from the public after playing a series of video clips showing her supporting Mr Trump. During this time, she repeatedly accused Democrats of being “brainwashed” by the media they consume.
The MAGA supporter then praised the president’s controversial tariffs, saying the “real economy” is thriving under him. She said: “The reality is tariffs are not a massive tax on the American people.
“The tax on the American people that you’ve been suffering with is the inflation that Biden and the Democrats put on the American people and their absolute reckless spending for the past four years.
“Don’t be a ‘panican’. That’s a new word President Trump came up with. You see, look, it took us decades to get here – decades to get the $36 trillion in debt.
“It took decades for our factories to get shut down and our jobs sent overseas. It took decades for us to all fall into this terrible – it’s basically a grave that America has been put in and dug by our federal government.”
Ms Greene recently made headlines for telling a British reporter to “go back to your own country” in a furious rant. She was asked about the defence plans that were accidentally leaked to a journalist in a group chat by Sky News’ Martha Kelner.
The Republican erupted at the line of questioning, telling the journalist to worry instead about “people from your country”.
She said: “We don’t give a c*** about your opinion and your reporting. Why don’t you go back to your country? You should care about your own borders.”
