Emergency crews have reportedly swarmed the runway at an European airport following reports of a bomb threat on a plane. The alert involved an SAS flight travelling from Copenhagen to Warsaw on Tuesday morning, with reports emerging shortly after 9am that an explosive device may have been on board. Flight SK751 landed at Warsaw Chopin Airport at around 9.28am before the aircraft was evacuated and bomb disposal procedures got underway. One of the airport’s runways was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, although it is reportedly expected to reopen after 11.30am. The alert comes amid disruption at Polish airports after a separate bomb threat was reported on board a LOT Polish Airlines flight travelling from London Heathrow to Warsaw.
That aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX operating flight LO286 with 181 people on board, was diverted to Warsaw Modlin Airport.
Modlin Airport was closed until further notice while emergency and security services responded to the incident.
The airport said an “alarm” concerning a bomb threat was received at 9.54am local time, with the aircraft landing minutes later at 10.01am.
Around half an hour later, the airport said passengers had begun disembarking from the aircraft and would wait in the arrivals hall while further procedures were carried out.
A LOT Polish Airlines spokesperson told the Express: “LOT Polish Airlines was notified by airport authorities of a potential security threat on board a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft operating flight LO286 from London to Warsaw.
