Contrary to popular belief, Bounty is not the least favourite chocolate in a tub of Celebrations, according to recent research.
The study, which surveyed 4,000 people, found that for that for 14% of respondents, Christmas wouldn’t feel complete without a spirited debate which is the best chocolate in the assortment box.
The survey was commissioned by Celebrations themselves is encouraging all chocoholics to join the festive debate using the hashtag #MyFavourite.
Galaxy maintained a strong presence in the top ranks, with its caramel variant securing third place, followed by Snickers. Bounty managed to secure a spot in the top five, surpassing Twix, Milky Way and Mars.
But this year it was revealed that Mars has taken the bottom spot in the UK’s chocolate rankings, while Maltesers emerged as the top choice.
A significant 43% chose the malty treat as their preferred pick, outshining Galaxy, which secured second place with 34%. The mini-Mars bar, however, was favoured by a mere 18%.
Interestingly, Belfast proved an exception, where 91% of respondents favoured Mars and seldom left it till last in the tub.
The study also highlighted Londoners’ particular fondness for Maltesers. To mark this, Roman and Martin Kemp took to the streets of London in a festive rickshaw, proclaiming Maltesers as the city’s top choice.
Roman Kemp commented: “Nothing says Christmas like an argument over the chocolate tub. Whether it’s about who gets the last one or why no one’s eating the Bounty, the debates are endless. I’m firmly on Team Maltesers, but dad is very much Team Twix.”
A significant 33% confessed to having a ‘first pick’ they aim for as soon as the box is opened. Family squabbles over who gets the first choice when the seal is broken are not uncommon, with 12% admitting to such disputes.
However, 20% advocate for a fair system where everyone gets to choose one chocolate before anyone can go in for seconds.
