Cauliflower can gain ‘ultimate flavour’ when cooked using this simple method

Cauliflower lovers and haters alike have been urged to cook the vegetable using one simple method to give it “ultimate flavour”. One of the most common ways to cook cauliflower, and any vegetable, is by boiling it. However, this method often causes the vegetable to lose its taste and become bland.

This usually happens when the cauliflower is left in the water for too long, releasing sulfurous compounds that make it smell and taste bad. Although boiling is a much easier and less time-consuming method of cooking cauliflower, grilling or barbecuing it will make it far more enjoyable. Food experts have said that cutting it into ‘steaks’ or wedges will enhance its flavour and give it a sweet and smoky taste.

The high heat of the grill will also cause the sugars in the vegetables to caramelise, sweetening the flavour. Grilling also gives it a smoky char and a crispy crust.

To minimise the cooking process, they can be cut into wedges before being grilled. Alternatively, the vegetable can be cut into ‘steaks’, which are cross-sections from the head of the vegetable.

BBC Good Food explained: “Cauliflower can be cut into ‘steaks’ or wedges and grilled or barbecued, so it picks up lots of flavour and char.”

Other experts have also recommended steaming or microwaving the vegetable before grilling or barbecuing it to ensure that it’s cooked all the way through and to prevent it from getting burned.

Heartbeet Kitchen said: “The best grilled cauliflower starts with a top-secret tip—the microwave! First, you’ll steam the cauliflower in the microwave to cook all the way through before firing up the grill and searing it for ultimate flavour and beautiful char.

“You’ll end up with perfectly cooked cauliflower florets that are tender inside and crisp on the edges,” they added. “No more undercooked, crunchy cauliflower! After grilling, the cauliflower is incredibly tender, caramelised, smoky, flavourful and 100% delicious.”

Cauliflower can be served in various rice dishes, soups, pastas and curries. By following these simple instructions and recommendations, the cauliflower will become your favourite vegetable and a must-have dish at your next barbecue party.

Plus, it’s a better alternative to ensuring you’re consuming enough greens to keep your energy up throughout your busy days.
