Four people, including two teenagers, have been rushed to hospital after a car crashed into them while large crowds of fans gathered to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain’s win in the Champions League final.

The horrifying incident occurred on Saturday evening, May 31, on Cours Jean-Jaurés in Grenoble, France. The driver of a BMW 1 Series was speeding along the central tramway tracks towards Echirolles when he attempted a U-turn using the handbrake at the intersection of Avenue Alsace-Lorraine.

He subsequently hit four pedestrians, two 17-year-old boys and two women, aged 23 and 46, all members of the same family. The driver reportedly abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene, fearing retaliation from the crowd.

Local media reports suggest he turned himself in shortly afterwards and was arrested by police. Two women and one of the teenagers sustained critical injuries, while the other teenager is believed to be less severely hurt.

Around 30 firefighters and a team from the emergency medical services (SAMU 38) were dispatched to the scene to aid the victims, reports the Mirror. All received emergency treatment at the scene and transported to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital for further care.

“A vehicle apparently lost control, hitting four people, two of whom were seriously injured,” Grenoble officials told the AfP agency.

Shocking videos of the aftermath showed large crowds of people standing around in horror as the four family members lay stricken on the ground. Others showed panicked PSG supporters running in terror from the incident.

Grenoble police officers had to prevent hostile groups from intervening with their operation, with many hurling stones and bottles at them. The police were forced to use tear gas grenades to push them back.

Meanwhile, across France, football supporters have caused chaos for law enforcement, with around 300 arrests in Paris alone as celebrations turned to riots. Scores of vehicles were burned across the capital while crowds through objects and fireworks at police.
