A Netflix war film has viewers hooked thanks to its incredible storyline, cinematography, and its action-packed plot. Sisu, relased in 2022, is a film set during the Lapland War between Finland and Nazi Germany towards the end of World War II. It follows the journey of a former commando turned gold prospector, who discovers a rich gold despoit in the wilderness. However, he is met with a Nazi platoon led by an SS officer, who try and steal his gold.
The action packed film shows the ex-commando going to extreme lengths to get back his gold regardless of what is thrown at him. The drama and intensity portrayed throughout the one and a half hour film has clearly done a number on fans as it currently has an impressive rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
One fan wrote on the review website: “Totally entertaining, hand over the mouth violence showing what true courage and determination never give up Finish attitude. Felt like it was produced by Quinton Tarentino. Non stop action and the star only had one line. Much better than the usual fare filled with one liners!!!”
Echoing the opinion, another wrote: “Magnificent. There is not a single second of waste in each action scene, in each suspense, in each silence, in the few dialogues. The climates, music and effects are very well done. A Finnish production that has nothing to envy of Hollywood.”
One fan even dubbed it as the “best film [they] have ever seen”, giving it five out of five stars.
The film, however, wasn’t for everyone. While still appreciating, many people felt quite the opposite.
“Some nice photography and good sound, but it’s basically just 91 minutes of blood, death, violence & gore,” one reviewer noted.
For some, there was too much action, as one reviewer said: “First half was very good, but in the second half it went too far.”
But, all in all, if you like being kept on the edge of your seat and live for the suspense, than this film is certaintly the one for you.
Applauding the film from the beginning to the end, one fan said: “Great story and acting! It’s a movie that always keeps you alert, as the ruthless protagonist gets into many tricky situations and you’ll never predict how he’ll escape. The movie flows at a nice pace and is very enjoyable to watch.”
