Dangerous waves and rains could batter the Canary Islands this week as the Spanish national weather agency issued a yellow weather warning.
AEMET forecasts waves could reach as high as five metres, while rough seas and heavy rains could severely impact the islands late Tuesday evening.
The north and west of Tenerife will be affected, as well as the north of Gran Canaria, and all of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, and El Hierro.
The waves, which are forecast to reach four or five metres, are predicted to start at midnight until 12:00pm on Wednesday 19 February.
Before the waves start, 15mm of rain could fall per hour from around 9:00pm to 6:00am in La Palma overnight on Tuesday, affecting the north and east of the island in particular.
Winds of up to 70 km/h could also batter La Palma and El Hierro from around 9:00pm to 7:00am overnight on Tuesday 18 February.
Tenerife and the western Canary Islands will experience heavy rains according to the forecast, while Lanzarote and Fuerteventura could experience isolated showers.
Despite the conditions expected for the whole of the Canary Islands, only the northwest coast of Spain’s mainland has been issued with a yellow weather warning.
It comes off the back of a storm that will hit the Iberian Peninsula on Tuesday evening.
The Canary Islands normally enjoy all-year-round warm weather and are chosen as a holiday destinations by millions of Brits every year.
