Can MindsEye do a Cyberpunk? Early patch notes for PS5, Xbox and PC updates

Gaming fans were hoping MindsEye would fill the gap left by the delay of GTA 6. Unfortunately, however, despite being directed by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, the launch of MindsEye has been a bit of a disaster.

At the time of writing, MindsEye has a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating on Steam, and a 2.9 user score on Metacritic. The biggest complaints are about the game’s subpar performance, poor enemy AI and excessive bugs and gameplay glitches.

It’s not too dissimilar to Cyberpunk 2077, which launched in such a sorry state that Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store back in 2020.

Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt managed to turn things around with the release of countless updates and fixes in the weeks, months and years that followed.

Judging by the latest statement from Build a Rocket Boy, the MindsEye developer plans to do the same.

In a post on X, Build a Rocket Boy apologised to fans for the issues at launch, before announcing plans to release a series of updates in the coming weeks.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to solve many of these issues, and we have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak,” reads a post on X.

“This impacted roughly 1 in 10 of our players. We have developed a hotfix that addresses this issue (alongside other issues that our players have highlighted), which we are working hard to deploy as soon as tomorrow on PC and on consoles once it passes certification with PlayStation and Xbox.”

According to the studio, the first update will launch between June 13 and June 15 on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC. It will primarily focus on CPU and GPU performance improvements. 

As you can see from the early patch notes below, the update will also add a new option to disable or adjust Depth of Field, all the while reducing the difficulty for the CPR mini-game.

Players will be pleased to hear that further updates will improve enemy AI, fix certain animations and rebalance hard mode.

Hotfix 1 (June 13-15) early patch notes…

• Initial CPU and GPU performance improvements, along with memory optimisations

• Reduced difficulty for the CPR mini-game

• A new setting to disable or adjust Depth of Field

• Fix for missing controls in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games

• Pop-up warnings for PCs with Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled and for PCs with CPUs prone to crashes

Hotfix 2 (week of June 16) early patch notes…

• Continuous incremental performance and stability improvements

• Fix for the buggy wheels not visually spinning while driving

• Fix for areas in Car Manufacturing where players could fall through the world

Hotfix 3 (by the end of June) early patch notes…

• Ongoing performance & stability improvements

• Rebalanced “Hard” difficulty setting

• Animation fixes

• AI improvements
