Move over, the rest of the country, California is running the college party scene.

Translation: books by day, blowouts in Isla Vista by night.

With more than 22,000 undergrads and a social scene steps from the Pacific, UCSB has turned the college experience into a sun-drenched cycle of lectures, beach hangs and late-night chaos.

Meanwhile, just down the coast, University of Southern California climbed from No. 5 last year to No. 4.

The Trojans outranked heavy hitters such as University of Alabama, Syracuse University and University of Wisconsin–Madison.

At USC, the vibe is less chaotic and more curated.

Students described their campus as “high quality and social,” blending networking, diversity and future-building, all while keeping one foot firmly in LA’s nightlife.

It’s a tale of two California campuses:

  • UCSB: flip-flops, house parties and ocean views
  • USC: rooftop mixers, connections and a polished party scene

Both cracked the top five, but they’re playing totally different games.
