Preparing for a flight can seem like a daunting task but with the right tips, it needn’t be a headache. The summer season is in full swing, schools are out, and sun-seekers are eager to lounge on the nearest sunbed to soak up some rays.
However, before you head off to your holiday haven, take advice from someone who knows best – a seasoned flight attendant. Kelly, a blogger known as The Awkward Tourist, has been flying high with a leading airline for over six years and has gathered invaluable insights into the travel dos and don’ts.
Her number one piece of advice?
Prioritise comfort and pack everything necessary for a hassle-free flight. Whether you’re dreading the journey or excited about your destination, whether it’s a quick hop to Spain or a day-long voyage to Australia, being prepared is essential.
Kelly advises: “Assume there will be nothing on the airplane that you might want,” adding, “I’m serious!”, reports the Mirror.
She warns: “You never know when you’ll get on a plane and there’s no food on board, or your movie screen doesn’t work, or we run out of headphones to give you. If you have special dietary requirements, bring your own food, if you have kids, bring them entertainment and food.
“I’ve had more than one mother become upset when I didn’t have milk for her baby. ‘What am I supposed to feed my baby then?’ they ask, crossly. Well, I have a Biscoff cookie.
“If you get cold easily, bring a jacket, if you want to watch a movie, bring headphones. If you want to play games on your phone, bring an external battery.
“We are flying through the air six miles above the ground at 500 miles per hour, we have a limited amount of resources. If you think you’ll need it, bring it yourself.”
Additional essential advice includes avoiding bringing pungent food aboard aircraft, maintaining courtesy and politeness towards cabin crew, consuming plenty of water, and never venturing barefoot or in socks alone to the lavatory.
“That’s not water on the floor”, Kelly cheekily cautioned.
Passengers flooded the comments with appreciation for the guidance, with one declaring: “This is so awesome!”.
Another enthused: “I will definitely keep these in mind the next time I’m on a plane again, especially the toilet one.”
