Cabbage will taste better if you don’t boil and add 1 ingredient

As much as we all want to try and eat more vegetables, sometimes it can seem tough. Especially if you don’t find them that appealing to eat. One such example may be cabbage. While it can be a really tasty addition to a meal, sometimes people can be put off trying it. Perhaps because it’s easy to overcook and become waterlogged, or due to the fact that some people find it a bit bland.

However, if you use a simple cooking trick, you may be able to boost the flavour of your cabbage and eat a lot more of it. The first thing to remember is to avoid boiling it, as there’s a much simpler way to make it super tasty.

A recipe was recently shared on TikTok by Feed Your Family, and the content creator admitted she “never liked” eating cabbage, but this method completely turned things around for her. It’s “super easy” to do, and can really take your cabbage to another level.

Start by chopping it up and putting it into a pan with a little oil. Add some salt and pepper to season the vegetable well.

Once it’s a little bit crispy, all you need to do is add in a stock cube and some hot water. If you let this cook and reduce, it shoud leave you with some really delicious cabbage.

The video has been viewed hundreds of times since it was shared, and it’s been described as a “delicious” way to eat cabbage. It may be worth giving a whirl too, as the vegetable is super good for you.

Cabbage offers many health benefits such as supporting heart and digestive health. Some studies claim it also has the potential to reduce cancer risk, as well as providing the body with a good source of vitamins.

The vegetable is also celebrated for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to help lower blood pressure. Due to the fact that it’s rich in antioxidants and soluble fibre, it can also help to lower cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation.

It also contains potassium, which is an essential mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. The food can also work to support a healthy gut.

So, if you want to eat more of it, the recipe may be worth a try. There are some other things you can do to boost the flavour of your cabbage too.

How can I add flavour to cabbage?

While cabbage can be boiled, there are other ways you can cook it too. Adding a few ingredients to it can also work to enhance flavour.

Some people suggest adding some bacon to pan-friend cabbage to add another layer of flavour. Others opt for a little onion too.

If you’re looking for a smoky flavour, adding some smoked paprika can help. Garlic powder is another common pantry ingredient that can add a hint of garlic flavour throughout the dish.

To cook cabbage in a frying pan, heat some oil in a heavy-based pan and cook over a high heat for five to six minutes. When the cabbage starts to catch a little, you’ll know it’s done.

Then, lower the heat, add some butter, some salt and pepper and cook for a further four to five mins until the cabbage is tender. That’s all there is to creating an easy, and tasty, side dish.
