An Ohio bull rider died after he was tossed from a bull and stomped by the animal in the middle of a rodeo on Saturday, reports said.
Jason Blake Saylor, 35, suffered a traumatic chest injury after he was stepped on or kicked by a bull at the Fox Hollow Stables in Waynesville, according to WXIX-TV.
Saylor sustained the fatal injury despite wearing chest protection, officials told the outlet.
The rodeo confirmed the tragedy on Facebook, writing, “Our hearts are absolutely broken following the tragic loss of one of our bull riders and brothers in Christ last night at Fox Hollow Rodeo.
“There are no words to express the sadness we are feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” the post continued.
A 2025 report from the Arizona Independent News Network found that bull riding was the most dangerous sport in the US, with an injury rate more than 10 times higher than football.
The report cited a 2011 Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine study that found bull riders are killed about once every 25,000 rides.
Last year, a rider was bucked off his bull and trampled in front of a stunned crowd in the Bronx.
