There is speculation that veteran Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David could retire after 14 seasons as the team announced he will host a press conference on Tuesday.
It will be held in the team’s auditorium at the AdventHealth Training Center at 2 p.m. ET. No further details were provided.
The press conference follows Tampa Bay’s signing of veteran linebacker Christian Rozeboom on Monday.
In 2025, Rozeboom recorded 122 total tackles, 2.0 sacks and one interception for the Carolina Panthers, while setting a new season-high in tackles for loss (7).
General Manager Jason Licht and head coach Todd Bowles addressed David’s free agency at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, which took place at the end of February into early March in Indianapolis.
“Once again, you know how I feel and we feel and the entire organization [feels] about Lavonte David,” Licht said. “He is the staple of what we look for in a player and a person and he has also earned the right to take a step back and decide what his future is and we are giving him that respect right now.”
In 2025, David amassed an interception, three passes defended, two forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, 114 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.
The All-Pro linebacker played 1,023 snaps in his 14th season.
David was a captain on the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2020, when Tampa Bay dismantled the Chiefs, 31-9, at Raymond James Stadium in February 2021.
A second round pick by the Buccaneers in the 2012 NFL Draft, David went on to earn First-team All-Pro honors in 2013, a Pro Bowl nod in 2015 and second-team All-Pro recognitions in 2016 and 2020.
