There will be no quotes about Arizona’s run to the Final Four from Bryce James — at least, not on Thursday.
LeBron James’ youngest son was blocked from journalists by a bodyguard during the Wildcats’ media availability following their arrival in Indianapolis, according to Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wolken.
“Arizona had an enforcer in the locker room today near Bryce James to tell reporters that he wasn’t going to do interviews,” Wolken wrote on X.
While Bryce, a freshman, has not played this season as he redshirts, the interest in him is nonetheless overwhelming.
He’s, of course, the son of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, but as an athlete who’s watched Arizona play from one of the best seats in the building all season, he could also provide some valuable insight ahead of the team’s massive Saturday showdown with Michigan.
Wolken went on to report the shielding of the 18-year-old was due to a directive from the player’s dad — not the university.
“To be clear,” Wolken said, “Bryce’s media availability is being dictated by LeBron/Klutch, not Arizona.”
Bryce committed to UofA in January 2025 and made the decision to sit out Year 1 in February 2026.
Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd said at the time the move was made “to give Bryce the most options in his career as his career unfolds.”
“I have real strong belief that Bryce will be a contributor at Arizona in the near future,” Lloyd said. “He’s really shown a lot of progress, not only learning our system but just physically maturing.”
