This week, temperatures in the UK are set to soar past 30C in what will be a very warm couple of days. And with the higher mercury comes a higher risk of falling victim to a very common summer health problem.

The Met Office is forecasting very high pollen counts across much of the UK this week, meaning many Brits will be on the lookout for simple and effective ways to ease their hay fever symptoms. Sneezing, red eyes and headaches are all common hay fever symptoms, and they can be incredibly annoying. But according to experts, brushing your teeth could be the key to eliminating these.

Dr. Emma Lin also advised: “A warm compress placed across the cheeks and forehead can soothe sinus pressure and encourage drainage. This natural method supports your body’s response to inflammation caused by allergic reactions and offers immediate relief.”

Plants can also boost your bathroom’s aesthetic and air quality – but some may worsen allergies. Certain plants release airborne allergens or develop mould in damp soil, especially in humid places.

The best plants for your bathroom include:

  • Spider Plants

  • Boston Ferns

  • Peace Lilies

  • Bamboo Palm

However, if you suffer from hay fever, the plants to avoid are:
