British tourists mocked by Germans after urgent Euro 2024 beer warning

British tourists have been mocked by Germans after an urgent beer warning was issued ahead of the Euro 2024 tournament. The warning was issued by the Foreign Office to potential tourists visiting the tournament because of the strength of German beer.

Drinkaware said that while the average strength of a beer in the UK was around 4.4 percent, this rose to between 4.7 and 5.4 percent in Germany.

Following the warning, German newspaper Bild joked: “If there’s one thing you don’t have to explain to the islanders, it’s how to drink!”

In a statement, the Foreign Office said: “Beer can be stronger than in the UK, so drink responsibly, know your limits and respect local laws. You may not be let into the stadium if you drink too much.”

The warning has also been mocked by Conservative MP Kevin Foster who said: “At a time when there are so many serious issues for the FCDO to be tackling in terms of global peace, passing comment on German beer should be the least of their worries.

“’Fans travelling to Germany should respect our hosts and their laws, as we expect those visiting the UK to do, but they don’t need nanny state advice to do so.”

While the Foreign Office warned about the strength of German beer, they also cautioned fans about buying tickets to the tournament, The Mail reports.

They said: “Only buy match tickets from official providers. Tickets will be electronic and you will need your mobile phone to validate them at entry.

“Make sure your phone is charged and take into account roaming charges in Germany – check with your phone provider before you travel.

“Match tickets bought through unofficial means may not be valid. If you sell tickets through unofficial means, you could be prosecuted.”

Around 500,000 British fans are expected to make the trip to Germany for Euro 2024, a figure that could reach a peak of 800,000.

The tournament is expected to span several cities in Germany including Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, and Dortmund.

Leipzig, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Gelsenkirchen, and Frankfurt are also expected to host matches when the tournament kicks off later this year.
